Olympiacos – Real Madrid 3–4: Player Ratings

What began as a dream night for Olympiacos—thanks to a spectacular early strike from Chiquinho—quickly turned into chaos. Vinícius and Mbappé ran riot, flipping the match on its head within minutes and plunging the hosts into a nightmare spell. Even so, Olympiacos refused to fold. They pushed relentlessly for an equaliser until the very last second, showing character despite the defensive collapse.

OLYMPIACOS [4-2-3-1]

Mendilibar – 6
His intention for Olympiacos to go toe-to-toe with Real Madrid was admirable, but the defensive plan against Vinícius and Mbappé bordered on naïve. Once again, despite tremendous effort from the players, the team left the pitch without reward.

Tzolakis – 6
Made an early save on Vinícius but was swept up in the disastrous ten-minute collapse, conceding four goals (one later ruled offside). More exposed by the defence than at fault himself. Produced several solid stops and even created a chance for El Kaabi with a long ball.

Retsos – 4
A nightmare performance. Showed willingness but was completely overwhelmed by Madrid’s superstars. One of his poorest nights with the club. Recovered somewhat in the final half-hour as Olympiacos pushed forward.

Pirola – 6
The opener came from his aggressive interception. Looked composed for most of his time on the pitch, but his reaction on the 2–4 was poor. Forced off shortly afterwards with injury.

Rodinei – 4
Similar story to Retsos: effort but little effectiveness. Vinícius exposed him repeatedly, and his positioning on the 1–3—trying to step up on Mbappé—was amateurish.

Ortega – 5
Battled hard within his limits, but against this level of opposition it was never going to be enough.

García – 6
The end-to-end tempo didn’t suit him, yet his experience provided a measure of control while he lasted. Delivered an excellent cross before halftime that nearly turned into an assist.

Mouzakitis – 7
Caught defensively in such an open game, with Güler finding dangerous pockets. Still, he worked tirelessly, supported the build-up well, and only occasionally misplaced possession.

Gelson – 6
Energetic as always but without decisive end product. Threatening but not influential.

Podence – 5
Below expectations. Took part in the move for 1–0, but afterward struggled, losing the ball in risky areas—including the sequence leading to Madrid’s equaliser. Substituted before the end.

Chiquinho – 8
Scored one of Olympiacos’ finest goals in European competition and threatened twice more in the same fashion. Cruelly forced off injured after half an hour.

El Kaabi – 8
One of the few who truly rose to the occasion. Worked tirelessly, dragged the team forward, and scored a magnificent goal to make it 3–4.

Substitutes

Taremi – 7
Replaced the injured Chiquinho. Wasteful early on, but after halftime powered in a strong header for 2–3, reigniting belief.

Jesé – 7
Came on for García. Delivered a superb assist for Taremi and later set up El Kaabi for a big chance in the 83rd minute.

Biancone – 7
A major positive in the final half-hour, strong and proactive as Olympiacos chased the result.

Strefetza – 7
Another effective change. Sent in the excellent cross for El Kaabi’s 3–4.

Costinha
Held his ground well against Vinícius during his minutes, though his crossing didn’t come off.

REAL MADRID [4-2-3-1]

Xabi Alonso – 8
Despite conceding early, his side reacted instantly and ultimately controlled a difficult away fixture—arguably more comfortably than the 3–4 scoreline suggests.

Lunin – 7
Conceded three but made several crucial stops. Had every reason to feel frustrated with his defence during Olympiacos’ late surge.

Asensio – 6
Brought intensity for about 75 minutes but was at fault in a few actions, notably the phase leading to 2–3.

Carreras – 7
Out of position but very active, especially in Madrid’s build-up play. Defensively respectable given the circumstances.

Arnold – 7
Showcased his trademark diagonal passing to the Greek audience. Even attempted to score directly from a corner in the 25th minute.

Mendy – 7
A disciplined, tactically controlled performance. Did the essentials and managed his flank with composure.

Tchouaméni – 8
One of the standout performers, particularly after the break. Struck the bar with a thunderous effort on 36’ and initiated the 2–4 goal with a brilliant diagonal pass.

Camavinga – 8
Shaky start but soon became a driving force behind the comeback, taking initiative and contributing directly to key moments. Subbed off at halftime.

Valverde – 7
Didn’t need to do anything extravagant. His running and tempo-setting were vital as Real took control.

Vinícius – 9
Hosted his own party down the left flank. Would have earned a perfect score had his second goal not been ruled offside due to Mbappé’s position.

Güler – 7
Not always visible, yet quietly influential between the lines. Delivered a lovely assist with his weaker foot. Might have taken the shot himself instead of overpassing on 36’.

Mbappé – 10
Nothing more needs to be said: he scored four. A staggering exhibition of goalscoring instinct. Karaiskakis witnessed the planet’s best player at full force.
