Greece Player Ratings: A Historic Night Against Germany

Greece made history with a memorable 0-1 victory over Germany, the first-ever against the four-time world champions. It was a disciplined and hard-fought performance, built on defensive organisation, determination and some decisive individual moments.

A classy performance. Made three crucial saves, the best coming in the 53rd to deny Kimmich’s free-kick. Looked composed whenever Germany put pressure. Comfortable with the ball at his feet.

4 Mavropanos — 8/10
Statistically among the standout performers. Cleared dangerous situations with an authoritative presence, particularly in the air. His best moment came with a superb tackle in the first half.

5 Retsos — 8/10
Equally reliable in his defensive duties. Played with great determination and contributed to keeping Germany at bay.

2 Vagiannidis — 6/10
Played the first half. Relatively quiet, didn't encounter any problems.

21 Tsimikas — 8/10
Another great performance. Showed determination and discipline, particularly during the closing stages.

15 Androutsos — 8/10
Had a difficult task, as one of the newer faces in the team. Yet he rose to the occasion. Covered much ground until the final whistle.

20 Zafiris — 6/10
Worked hard, but it was difficult to get much of the ball. There were a few moments he could've done better. Substituted around the hour mark.

19 Karetsas — 8/10
Played the full 90 mins, remaining active throughout. Not everything he attempted came off, but consistently looked for the ball. A superb dribble against the German no.10.

10 Tzolis — 8/10
Not one of his best performances. However, he remained active and willing to help. Most importantly, he provided the assist for the winning goal.

14 Pavlidis — 9/10
Alongside Tzolakis and Kourbelis, one of Greece's standout performers. Played like a leader. Set up Ioannidis for the big chance in the 67th. Moments later a brilliant switch of play resulted in the winning goal.

16 Tetei — 6/10
Played in a more advanced role. Involved in plenty of battles, but there were situations he could have handled better. Substituted around the hour mark.

17 Saliakas — 7/10
Slightly more noticeable than Vagiannidis. Showed good pace and determination.

6 Kourbelis — 10/10
Played only half an hour, but no other rating to receive. Scored a historic goal, even with the amount of luck. Professional contribution overall. 

8 Ioannidis — 7/10
Almost the unfortunate hero of the night in the 67th, before Kourbelis goal. Had a good left-footed effort at the end. A positive presence, despite the missed chance.

18 Michailidis & 7 Masouras — N/A
Procedural substitutions to shield team's lead.

Coach Jovanović — 10/10
Deserves much credit for the way he approached the game. Spent large parts of the match sitting behind the ball, but the structure was well organised. Germany were neutralised, created few clear chances and struggled to find a way. His substitutions made a real impact of course.
