Olympiacos 2025 Preseason recap | Ανασκόπηση προετοιμασίας
Olympiacos completed their preseason with positive signs. In friendlies on Dutch and German soil, they were dominant, while against top-level opponents such as Napoli and Inter, they remained competitive despite the losses. The overall impression is encouraging, although areas for reinforcement are visible.
PLAYER RATINGS
Goalkeepers
Tzolakis and Paschalakis maintained their usual reliability, with the former expected to remain a key guarantee this season. Boti also left a positive impression, earning playing time and showing potential for the future.
Defenders
At centre-back, Retsos showed excellent form and leadership. The dynamic Biankon appears capable of providing solutions, while Pirola is reliable but needs technical improvement. Kalogeropoulos made a good impression, although it’s uncertain if he can consistently meet high-level demands. Vezo’s continuation in a backup role remains to be seen. On the right, Kostinia stood out, proving key with his runs and physicality, while Rodrinei has established himself as the right-wing option. On the left, Oniemaetsi showed similar dynamism, and Ortega also had a decent showing.
Transfer-wise, acquiring a centre-back is deemed essential (ideally Carmo or an equivalent replacement), while the left side remains uncertain, especially if Ortega is sold.
Midfielders
The expected main trio is García – Mouzakitis – Tsikinio. Young Sipioni impressed as a defensive midfielder, while Nascimento showed good ball retention, although his stature limits him in duels. Liatsikouras caught attention with his runs and all-around play, proving deserving of opportunities. Esse’s future remains a key question after the new additions. In any case, for the season’s high demands, an experienced midfielder with proven track record would be a useful addition.
Forwards
At the top, El Kaabi remains the primary figure, with Yaremchuk as a reliable alternative. Betancor has departed, leaving the question of whether a striker with a stronger profile will be signed. Yazici is a unique player who can operate in an advanced role thanks to his technique and height, though his game shows some predictability.
Zelson remains the “wing demon,” provided he avoids injuries. Campela shows resilience despite his age and is expected to play a key role. The expensive signing Streffetsa has shown flashes of quality, but expectations remain high. The standout of preseason was Pneumonidis, who showcased his talent and appears to have a high ceiling, raising expectations similar to last year’s Kostoulas. With the departures of Velde and Masouras, at least one winger signing is certain, likely a significant one.
